Tri-City shuts out Waterloo to claim top spot in USHL standings

Kearney, NE – The Tri-City Storm defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 3-0 Friday night at the Viaero Center in Kearney. In the win, Tri-City took control of 1st place in the USHL league standings. Ronnie Attard, Brendan Furry, and Zac Jones netted goals in the Storm win, and Isaiah Saville turned away all 38 Waterloo shots to record his 4th shutout of the season in net. Tri-City will host Waterloo again tomorrow night at the Viaero Center and will hit the ice for the first time this season as the 1st place team in the USHL league standings. Tomorrow night is the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss and will also serve as Sammy’s Superheroes Night. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm.

 

Storm Captain Ronnie Attard scored a power play goal just over 5 minutes into the game to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Attard’s goal was scored at 5:04 of the 1st period and was assisted by Brendan Furry and Zac Jones. Furry netted his 11th goal of the season in the final four minutes of the period to increase the Storm lead to two. Furry’s goal was scored on the power play at the 16:54 mark of the period and was assisted by Ronnie Attard and Zac Jones.

 

Zac Jones scored the only goal of the 2nd period at 4:33 to increase the Tri-City lead to 3-0. Jones’ goal was scored on the power play and was assisted by Brendan Furry and Ronnie Attard. The goal was the Storm’s third power play goal of the game, and was the final scoring play of the night. After holding off a late attack from Waterloo, Tri-City skated away with a 3-0 win over the Black Hawks. Tri-City has now won nine of its last ten on home ice, and has taken a 2-0 lead in the four game season series. Tomorrow’s game vs. Waterloo will be the Black Hawks final trip to the Viaero Center in the 2018-2019 regular season. In the win, Tri-City improved to 24-6-1-1 on the season.
