Recap: Tri-City defeats Madison 4-2

Middleton, WI – The Tri-City Storm defeated the Madison Capitols by a final score of 4-2 Saturday night at the Bob Suter Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wisconsin. Tri-City got goals in the game from Colton Kalezic, Zac Jones, and Ronnie Attard. Storm goaltender Jake Barczewski made 27 saves on 29 shots to record his 9th victory of the season in goal. Tri-City returns home to the Viaero Center in Kearney Friday night in a matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.

 

Madison opened the scoring 26 seconds into the game on a goal by Chaz Smedsrud. Tri-City responded with goals from Colton Kalezic and Ronnie Attard to take a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period. Kalezic’s goal was scored at the 11:45 mark of the period and was assisted by Filip Forsmark. Ronnie Attard netted a power play goal for the Storm at the 16:24 mark of the period with Zac Jones and Brendan Furry picking up assists on the goal. The Storm outshot the Capitols 11-7 in the 1st period and led 2-1 after the 1st period. Alex Mella netted the only goal of the 2nd period for Madison to tie the game at 2-2. Madison outshot Tri-City 12-10 in the 2nd period.

 

Zac Jones put the Storm in front with a 3rd period goal at 5:48 of the 3rd period. The goal was the 3rd of the season for Jones and gave Tri-City its 2nd lead of the game. Madison pulled goaltender Joey Lamoreaux for an extra attacker with under one minute to play in the game, and Storm Captain Ronnie Attard scored an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Storm. The goal was Attard’s 10th of the season and 2nd of the game. Tri-City extended its point streak to six games, and now holds a five-point advantage over Des Moines for 1st place in the Western Conference standings. Zac Jones was named the game’s 1st Star, and the Storm improved to 23-6-1-1 on the season.
