Tri-City begins road stretch against Team USA

Posted 77 days ago ago by Kendall Grayson

Plymouth, MI. – The Tri-City Storm will face off tonight against the United States National Team Development Program (Team USA) at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan to begin a three-game road stretch. Tri-City will play Team USA again on Friday night, before traveling for a road matchup against the Madison Capitols on Saturday.

Tri-City (21-6-1-0) enters tonight’s game against Team USA as the 1st place team in the USHL’s Western Conference standings. The Storm currently hold a two-point lead over 2nd place Des Moines, and trail Eastern Conference leading Muskegon by four points. Tonight’s game will be the 4th of the season for the Storm against an opponent from the Eastern Conference. Tri-City has won all three previous matchups against Eastern Conference teams this season, most recently defeating Cedar Rapids by a final score of 3-2 at the Viaero Center on December 1st. This week marks the first and only time this season that the Storm will play three road games in a single week all against Eastern Conference opponents. The Storm will complete a two game season series against Team USA tomorrow night, and also complete a two game season series Saturday night against the Madison Capitols. Tri-City won the only previous matchup of the season against Madison in a 2-1 defeat of the Capitols on September 28th at the 2018 USHL Fall Classic. Tri-City lost both games against Team USA last season at the Viaero Center and seeks its first win over the team at USA Hockey Arena since January 28th, 2017. Last season, the Storm matched up against the Team USA U18 team and will face the Team USA U17 team in both games this week.

Team USA (9-10-1-2) plays its first home game in league play tonight since a December 19th defeat of the Muskegon Lumberjacks by the U18 team. The U17s & U18s have combined for 21 points in the Eastern Conference standings this season, and have also combined for a 4-1 record against Western Conference teams this season. Tonight’s game between the Storm and Team USA is the only matchup on the USHL league schedule. The U17s are coming off of a 6-3 road loss to the Chicago Steel last Saturday. Luke Tuch, Daniyal Dzhaniyev, and Thomas Bordeleau scored for Team USA in the loss.

Today’s game is set to begin at 6:00pm CT, and will be streamed live on HockeyTV, and Storm Radio. HockeyTV is a subscription based service that carries all Storm home and away games throughout the season. Storm Radio is the audio broadcast home for Tri-City Storm hockey, and can be accessed through Mixlr, StormHockey.com, or by downloading the official Tri-City Storm Mobile App. The broadcast will begin twenty minutes prior to the advertised game start time.
