Fargo, ND– The Tri-City Storm dropped the opening game of the weekend to the Fargo Force by a final score of 5-0 Saturday night at Scheels Arena in Fargo, ND. The Storm will look to win the final game of the season series tomorrow in the last game of the weekend. Puck drop is schedule for 5:05pm.
The Force scored a power play goal halfway through the 1st period to take a 1-0 lead. Ben Meyers netted his league leading 17th goal of the season at 9:39 of the 1st period to put the Force up by one. Tri-City was outshot 11-8 in the 1st period. Fargo netted three goals in the 2nd period to take a 4-0 lead into the 3rd. Hank Crone scored his 6th & 7th goals of the year less than five minutes apart, and Ross Mitton tallied his 3rd goal of the season with less than three minutes to play to give Fargo a four-goal lead. Fargo outshot Tri-City 16-4 in the 2nd period.
Cedric Fiedler scored his 1st goal of the season in the 3rd period, and the Fargo Force picked up its 14th win of the year Saturday night. Ryan Bischel stopped all 24 Storm shots to record the shutout in goal. Fargo outshot Tri-City
41-24. The game marked only the 2nd time this season that the Tri-City offense has been held off the scoreboard.
In the loss, the Storm dropped to 18-6-1-0 on the year through 25 regular season games played. Despite the loss, the Storm remain at the top of the USHL’s Western Conference standings with 37 points. Tomorrow’s game is the final game for Tri-City until the team hosts rival Lincoln at the Viaero Center on December 28th.
