Storm fall to Force 4-2

Kearney, NE– The Tri-City Storm dropped a 4-2 decision to the Fargo Force at the Viaero Center on Friday night. The Storm got goals in the game from Khristian Acosta and Joe Molenaar. The Storm and the Force entered the 3rd period in a 1-1 tie, and Fargo outscored Tri-City 3-1 in the 3rd period. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night in what will be the final matchup of the season between Tri-City and Fargo at the Viaero Center this season. The four game regular season series will conclude following two games in Fargo next weekend. Tickets to tomorrow’s game can be purchased through www.stormhockey.com, or by calling 308-338-8144. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm.

 

The Force jumped on the board in the 1st period and carried a one goal lead into the 1st intermission. The only goal of the opening period was scored by Ben Meyers, it was his 13th goal of the season. Fargo outshot Tri-City 10-7 in the 1st period and led 1-0 entering the 2nd period. Tri-City’s Khristian Acosta scored the only goal of the 2nd period to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Acosta’s goal was his 3rd of the season and was assisted by Chase McLane. Fargo outshot Tri-City 10-7 in the 2nd period for a 20-14 shot on goal advantage through 2 periods.

 

Ben Meyers scored his 2nd goal of the night and 14th of the season just 24 seconds into the 3rd period to give the Force a 2-1 lead. Fargo’s Dan Russell netted another goal at 6:49 of the 3rd period to push the Fargo lead to two goals. The Storm would answer back and cut the lead in half with a power play goal from Joe Molenaar near the halfway point of the period. The goal scored by Molenaar was his 4th of the season and was assisted by Colton Kalezic and Colby Ambrosio. Tri-City’s goal at 8:49 of the 3rd period brought the Storm back within one goal of the Fargo lead. The final goal of the game would be netted minutes later by Fargo’s Tyler Gratton, and the Force skated away with a 4-2 win. Fargo outshot Tri-City 26-17 and took a one game lead in the regular season series.

 

Tomorrow’s promotional night is “Ugly Sweater Night”, with a post-game skate after the Storm vs. Force matchup.
