Storm improve to 2-0 after back to back wins at Fall Classic

Cranberry Township, PA. – The Tri-City Storm capped off a perfect week at the 2018 USHL Fall Classic with a 2-1 win over the Madison Capitols on Friday evening at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, PA. The Storm got goals from forward Ian Murphy & defenseman Zac Jones, and goaltender Isaiah Saville stopped 21 of 22 shots in the win.


Tri-City (2-0) scored a power play goal for the 2nd consecutive game in the 1st period to take a 1-0 lead over Madison. Ian Murphy’s goal was assisted by Keaton Pehrson and Filip Forsmark, and was scored at the 7:48 mark of the opening period. The Storm successfully killed off two late penalties and outshot the Capitols 10-5 in the 1st period. Tri-City carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.


The Storm scored the 2nd period’s only goal at 11:54 to increase the lead to two goals. The goal scored by Zac Jones was his 1st of the season and was assisted by Joe Berg. The Storm outshot Madison 9-6 in the 2nd period and entered the 3rd period with a 2-0 lead.


Madison cut the Storm lead in half with a late 3rd period goal with three minutes to play. The goal scored by the Capitol’s Calvin Pokorny was scored one the power play with an extra attacker on the ice, and was the only Madison goal of the game. Tri-City completed a perfect weekend at the Fall Classic, and improved its record to 2-0 in the regular season.


Tri-City now looks ahead to next week’s game against the Omaha Lancers. The matchup will take place at Ralston Arena in Ralston, NE on Saturday, October 6th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
