Lincoln, NE – The Tri-City Storm travel to the Icebox in Lincoln, NE to battle the Lincoln Stars for the 2nd consecutive night. After winning the first five games in the regular season series, the Storm dropped a game to the Stars for the first time this season last night at the Viaero Center. Lincoln won last night’s matchup 6-2 and the game tonight will be the seventh of an eight game regular season. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm.

Opponent: Lincoln Stars

Game Time: 7:05 PM CT

Broadcast: Watch: HockeyTV Listen: The Breeze 94.5 FM or Online

Tri-City (29-24-2-2) enters tonight’s game having dropped its previous six games. The Storm got goals from Connor McMenamin and Adam Goodsir in last night’s home game vs. Lincoln but allowed five unanswered goals after taking a 2-1 lead to drop the game by a final score of 6-2. Jake Barczewski stopped 36 of 42 shots and dropped to 10-12-2-1 in the loss. Tri-City is now 5-1 against the Stars with two games left in the regular season series. Tonight’s game will be the final road game of the regular season for Tri-City. The Storm’s magic playoff clinching number is down to one point following Sioux City’s loss last night at home to Cedar Rapids. Tri-City needs one point in the Western Conference standings to secure a playoff berth over the final three regular season games. The Sioux City Musketeers are directly behind the Storm in the Western Conference standings in 7th place. The Musketeers have to win all four remaining regular season games to remain in playoff contention. Tri-City locks up a playoff berth tonight with a win, an overtime or shootout loss, or a Sioux City loss.

Lincoln (33-22-1-1) has clinched a spot in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs and will be seeking its 2nd consecutive win over the Storm in tonight’s game. Last night, the Stars got goals from Josiah Slavin, Logan Jenuwine, Domick Mersch, Casey Dornbach, and Devlin McCabe in a 6-2 road victory over Tri-City. Tomas Vomacka stopped 19 of 21 shots and improved to 24-18-0-0 on the season. The Stars are still chasing home ice advantage in the opening round of the Clark Cup Playoffs and currently trail 4th place Sioux Falls by 4 points in the Western Conference standings. Tonight’s game is the final home game of the regular season for the Stars. Tri-City and Lincoln will meet one week from tonight at the Viaero Center in Kearney for the Storm’s final game of the regular season.

Tri-City and Lincoln will also battle for the 1st annual Sammy’s Cup this weekend. The Sammy’s Cup presented by Sammy’s Superheroes Foundation and First National Bank is a two game series between the Storm and the Stars. Tri-City and Lincoln play a total of eight regular season games this season, but only the two games in this weekend’s series will decide the Sammy’s Cup. The Stars lead the Sammy’s Cup Series 1-0 after last night’s 6-2 defeat of the Storm. Each team has a total donation goal of $500 and it will serve as the tiebreaker in the Sammy’s Cup series should each team win one game.
