Storm drop home game to Lincoln 6-2

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a 6-2 decision tonight to the Lincoln Stars at the Viaero Center. The Storm got goals from Connor McMenamin and Adam Goodsir in the loss. The two teams will play tomorrow at the Icebox in Lincoln. Puck drop is scheduled is 7:05pm.

 

The Storm got on the board in the 1st period at the 6:29 mark when Connor McMenamin scored his 8th goal of the season. Jack Summers and Chase McLane registered assists on the even strength goal. The primary assist by Summers was his 10th of the year and McLane’s secondary assist was his 9th on the year. Former Storm player Josiah Slavin netted his 1st goal of the night and 21st goal of the season minutes later to tie the game for the Stars. Slavin’s goal, scored at 9:03 of the period, tied the game at 1-1 and was assisted by Gustaf Westlund. The goal was the 4th shorthanded goal scored by Slavin this season. The Stars outshot the Storm 15-6 in the 1st period.

 

Tri-City’s Adam Goodsir scored 5:19 into the 2nd period to give the Storm its 2nd lead of the game. Goodsir’s goal was his 11th of the season to put the Storm ahead 2-1. Team assists leader Bryan Yoon recorded his 32nd assist of the year on the goal and took over the team point’s lead. Yoon now leads all Tri-City Storm skaters with 35 points on the season. 34 seconds after Tri-City took the lead, Lincoln answered with a goal by Logan Jenuwine. Jenuwine’s 5th of the season was assisted by Cole Krygier. With 65 seconds left in the 2nd period, the Stars added another goal to take a 3-2 lead into the 3rd period. Domick Mersch scored his 22nd goal of the season at the 18:55 mark of the period with Phillipe Lapointe picking up an assist on the goal. Lincoln outshout Tri-City 15-9 in the 2nd period.

 

The Stars continued to score goals in the game, and finished the night with five unanswered goals to win the game 6-2. Lincoln got goals from Casey Dornbach, Josiah Slavin, and Devlin McCabe in the 3rd period and outshot Tri-City 12-6. The Stars finished with 42 shots on goal and picked up their first win over the Storm in the season series. Lincoln is now 1-5 against the Storm this season with two games left in the season series.

 

Tri-City’s magic playoff clinching went from three to one following a 6-4 Sioux City home loss to Cedar Rapids tonight. The Storm now need 1 additional point in the Western Conference standings over the final three regular season games to clinch a spot in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs. The Storm can also clinch a playoff berth if Sioux City fails to win any of its remaining regular season games.

 

The Storm return to action tomorrow night in a road matchup against the Lincoln Stars. The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
