Storm fall to Stampede 4-2

Sioux Falls, SD. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a road contest to the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 4-2 Saturday night at the Denny Sanford Premiere Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Tri-City got 1st period goals from Hugo Blixt and Filip Forsmark before allowing four unanswered goals from the Stampede in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Tri-City returns to action Wednesday night in a mid-week matchup against Omaha at the Viaero Center.

 

The Storm put a power play goal past Sioux Falls goaltender Mikhail Berdin at the 3:50 mark of the 1st period to take an early one goal lead. Tri-City’s Hugo Blixt netted his 10th goal of the season with Bryan Yoon and Connor McMenamin recording assists on the game opening goal. Filip Forsmark scored with less than one minute remaining in the period to increase the Storm lead to two goals. The goal was scored at 19:04 of the 1st period and was assisted by Keaton Pehrson. Tri-City carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period.

 

Sioux Falls scored the only goal of the 2nd period 14:36 to cut the Storm lead down to one goal. Nolan Walker scored his 1st of the night and 19th of the season and the Stampede trailed 2-1 entering the 3rd period. Sioux Falls outshot Tri-City 18-2 in the 2nd period.

 

The Stampede scored three goals in the 3rd period to win the game 4-2. Sioux Fall’s Kevin Conley scored his 17th of the season at 7:55 to tie the game at 2-2. Nolan Walker netted his 2nd of the night and 20th of the season minutes later to give the Stampede its first lead of the game. The goal was scored at 9:55, exactly two minutes after Conley’s game tying goal. Colin Swoyer scored the game’s final goal into an empty net to seal the win for the Stampede.

 

Tri-City remains in 6th place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings with 62 points following the loss.

 

 

The Storm return to action Wednesday night in a home game against the Omaha Lancers. The broadcast will begin at 7:15pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35pm.
