Storm battle Stampede in USHL Game of the Week

Sioux Falls, SD – The Tri-City Storm battle the Sioux Falls Stampede tonight in the HockeyTV USHL Game of the Week at the Denny Sanford Premiere Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Fans can view tonight’s game for free online with a valid HockeyTV user login. Tri-City will attempt to snap a three game winless streak and even up the season series with Sioux Falls in tonight’s game. The matchup is the 4th and final game between the Storm and Stampede this season and the 55th game of the regular season for Tri-City.

Tri-City (29-21-2-2) enters tonight’s game following a 5-2 road loss to the Sioux City Musketeers last night at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, IA. Mike Koster and Hugo Blixt scored the only goals for Tri-City in the 3rd period of last night’s game. Storm goalie Jake Barczewski picked up the loss in net despite making a career high 44 saves during the game. Tri-City was outshot 49-18 and couldn’t recover from allowing three 1st period goals. The Storm have now lost three consecutive games and will look to get back on track against Sioux Falls. Following last night’s loss in Sioux City, Jake Barczewski now has an overall record of 10-9-2-1 entering tonight’s game in Sioux Falls. Tri-City is currently 6th place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings and holds onto the final playoff spot as the season nears an end. The Storm have compiled 62 points in the standings and lead 7th place Sioux City by 9 points with six games remaining in the regular season schedule.

 

Sioux Falls (31-15-4-4) has clinched a spot in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs and are currently the 4th place team in the Western Conference standings. The Stampede won a 3-2 overtime game last night over Waterloo at home and will look to win the season series over Tri-City with a win tonight. The Stampede have won two of the first three games in the season series, and most recently defeated Tri-City by a final score of 4-3 at the Viaero Center one week ago. The Stampede could vault to as high as 2nd place in the Western Conference with a win in tonight’s game. Kirill Panyukov, Reid Stefanson, and Colin Swoyer all scored goals in the Stampede’s 4-3 defeat of the Storm in their last meeting. Mikhail Berdin recorded the win in net, stopping 42 of Tri-City’s 45 shots on goal. Berdin enters tonight’s matchup with an overall record of 23-9-2-3. While Berdin has seen the majority of playing time in goal this season for the Stampede, Jaxon Stauber has a record of 8-6-2-1 and has one previous start this month. Stauber allowed five goals in Sioux Fall’s 5-2 home loss to Lincoln on March 11th.
