Geneva, IL. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a 5-2 decision to Chicago tonight in Geneva, IL. The loss marked the 3rd in a row for the Storm. Tri-City battles Chicago tomorrow afternoon in the final game of the season series. Puck drop for tomorrow’s game is set for 3:05pm.
Tri-City starting the scoring in the 1st period with a shorthanded goal from Johnny McDermott. Tyler Madden recorded the lone assist on McDermott’s goal at 18:59. Shots on goal were 8-8 in the 1st period and the Storm led 1-0 entering the 2nd period. Nick Abruzzese netted his 8th assisted by Samuel Bucek at the 7:10 mark of the 2nd period to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was registered on the power play. Tri-City’s Filip Forsmark responded with his 7th goal of the season shortly after to push the Storm lead back to one goal. Ronnie Attard and Mike Koster recorded the assists on Forsmark’s power play goal at 10:30 of the 2nd period. The Storm held a one goal lead entering the 3rd period.
Chicago scored four unanswered goals in the 3rd period to secure a 5-2 win on home ice. Aaro Vidgren scored at the 5:14 mark and the 12:58 mark of the period to put Chicago on top 3-2. Nick Abruzzese scored his 2nd goal of the night at 15:10 of the 3rd period and Samuel Bucek recorded an empty net goal at 19:59. The Steel’s 5-2 win over Tri-City snapped a two game losing skid.
Jake Barczewski stopped 29 of Chicago’s 33 shots and recorded the loss in goal for Tri-City.
The Storm return to action tomorrow afternoon in another road matchup with the Chicago Steel. The broadcast will begin at 2:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05pm.
