Preview: Storm faceoff against Steel in weekend series

Geneva, IL – The Tri-City Storm hit the road this weekend for two games against the Chicago Steel of the Eastern Conference. The Steel won the 2017 Clark Cup Championship and will battle the Storm tonight for the first time this season. The two games will be final of the season against Eastern Conference competition for Tri-City. The Storm enter tonight’s matchup against Chicago following two loses at home last weekend to Team USA.

Tri-City (27-18-1-2) is 9-6-0-1 against teams from the USHL’s Eastern Conference this season. The Storm are 5-1-0-1 when facing off against Eastern Conference teams in road matchups, with wins over Cedar Rapids, Youngstown, and Muskegon. Tri-City is currently 6th in the Western Conference standings and 9th overall in the USHL with 57 points on the year. With a win tonight, Tri-City could pass both Lincoln and Muskegon in the league standings. The Top 6 teams in the Western Conference standings are all separated by 9 points. Tri-City will play regular season game number 49 tonight, and will have only 11 games left in the regular season following tonight’s matchup with Chicago. The Storm are currently 9 points clear of 7th place Sioux City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tyler Madden continues to lead the Storm with 14 goals and 31 points on the season. Bryan Yoon has added 27 assists to the Storm offense and is the Storm’s assists leader with 12 games to go in the regular season.


Chicago (22-22-1-4) occupies the 6th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference entering tonight’s home game against Tri-City. Both teams are holding on to the final playoff spots in their respective conferences and will be battling for much needed points in the standings this weekend. Chicago dropped a mid-week game on Wednesday night to Muskegon by a final score of 3-1. Oskar Autio has made 35 appearances in net this season for the Steel and leads all Chicago goaltenders with 17 wins on the season. Autio is 17-16-1-0 on the year with a 2.96 Goals Against Average and a save percentage of .903%. Jack Dugan and Blake McLaughlin have each eclipsed the 20 goal plateau this season with Dugan leading the team with 22 and McLaughlin netting 20 on the season. Dugan also leads Chicago with 51 points as Graham Lillibridge leads the Steel with 35 assists on the year.


Tonight’s broadcast will begin at 6:45pm CT on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
