Preview: Storm close out three game weekend in Sioux City

Sioux City, IA – The Tri-City Storm travel to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa today to close out a three game weekend in a matchup with the Sioux City Musketeers. The Storm defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-2 last night at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, Iowa.

Tri-City (23-16-1-1) enters today’s matchup with Sioux City having won four of its last 5 games. The Storm rolled past Des Moines 5-2 last night to win the season series against the Bucs. Tri-City is 4-0 against Sioux City this season and defeated the Musketeers 5-4 in OT in the last matchup between the two teams on January 5th at the Viaero Center. Former Musketeers player Connor McMenamin scored the game winning goal in overtime. Last night, Tri-City put 5 goals on Des Moines, and Connor Hopkins stopped 20 of 22 shots in his Tri-City Storm debut as a starter to record the win in goal. Brian Hawkinson, Bryan Yoon, Blais Richartz, Noah Weber, and Jake Crespi all scored goals for the Storm in the 5-2 win. Tri-City currently sits in 5th place in the Western Conference standings with 56 points and can reach 4th place with a road win today in Sioux City.

 

Sioux City (20-19-4-2) fell at home last night to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 4-3. The Musketeers are two points back of Lincoln for the 6th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference entering today’s matchup with Tri-City. Sioux City is 10-10-3-1 on home ice this season and enters today’s game on a three game losing streak. The Musketeers are being led this season offensively by Martin Pospisil who has recorded 29 points during the 2017-2018 season. Cole Koepke currently leads the team in goal scored with 21 on the year. Goaltender Matt Jurusik has played in 39 of Sioux City’s 45 games and has a record of 18-15-3-1 and a GAA of 2.64.
