Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm fell at home tonight to the hands of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders by a final score of 4-1 The loss snapped the Storm’s three game win streak and the season series finished with each team picking up a win. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow night in Urbandale, Iowa in a Western Conference matchup with the Des Moines Buccaneers. Adam Goodsir scored the Storm’s only goal in tonight’s 4-1 loss to Cedar Rapids.
The RoughRiders scored the game’s opening goal less than 7 minutes into the 1st period. Jordan Timmons scored his 15th goal of the season to put Cedar Rapids ahead 1-0 at the 6:54 mark of the opening period. The RoughRiders netted an additional power play goal with less than 5 minutes to go in the period to increase the lead to 2-0. Nathan Smith scored his 10th goal of the season, with Matt Denman and Roman Ahcan collecting assists on the goal. The 1st period ended with Cedar Rapids leading 2-0.
Tri-City responded in the 2nd period with a late goal from Captain Adam Goodsir. Goodsir netted his 8th goal of the season at the 17:16 mark to bring the game back within 1 goal. The goal was the Storm’s only of the night and was assisted by Connor McMenamin and Mike Koster. The 2nd period concluded with the RoughRiders holding on to a 2-1 lead.
The Storm were unable to find the back of the net in the 3rd period and Cedar Rapids added two additional goals to secure a 4-1 over Tri-City. Storm starting goaltender Jake Barczewski went down with an apparent injury during the 3rd period and was replaced by Connor Hopkins. Hopkins’s appearance was his first in a USHL game. The injury to Barczewski came one game after Barczewski replaced Filip Larsson during last Saturday night’s game against Des Moines. Marek Valach and Roman Ahcan scored Cedar Rapids two 3rd period goals.
The Storm return to action tomorrow night at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, IA in a matchup with the Des Moines Buccaneers. The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
