Storm shutout Cedar Rapids 1-0

Cedar Rapids, IA. – The Tri-City Storm shutout the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders by a final score of 1-0 on Friday night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The win marked the 2nd road victory in a row for the team and their 1st over the RoughRiders this season. Tri-City and Cedar Rapids will meet next Friday at the Viaero Center in Kearney to conclude the two game season series. Filip Forsmark scored the only goal of the game in the 2nd period and Filip Larsson posted his league leading 7th shutout of the season in the Storm’s 1-0 win.


The opening 20 minutes of the game went by without either team finding the back of the goal. Cedar Rapids outshot Tri-City 8-4 in the 1st period, but it would be the Storm who would find the game’s first goal in the 2nd period. Filip Forsmark recorded his 6th goal of the season at the 14:22 mark of the 2nd period to put the Storm on top 1-0. Tyler Ward picked up his 12th assist of the season on the goal, and Ronnie Attard recorded his 5th assist of the year. The Storm led 1-0 entering the 2nd intermission break, despite being outshot 24-10.


The 3rd period passed by without either team scoring and the Tri-City Storm recorded its 25th victory of the season in the 1-0 shutout. Filip Larsson denied all 32 RoughRiders shots, and picked up 1st Star honors for his efforts. Game winning goal scorer Filip Forsmark was named the 2nd Star of the game for his 2nd period goal. Cedar Rapids goalie Blake Pietila was named the game’s 3rd Star, stopping 19 of 20 shots in a losing effort for the RoughRiders.


Tri-City has now won consecutive games for the first time since recording a two game sweep of Youngstown in January. The Storm remain in 5th place in the Western Conference standings, now trailing Fargo by only one point with two games in hand on the Force. With a win tomorrow night, and help from others teams around the league , the Storm could be only one game back of 2nd place entering next week’s matchup Friday night matchup with Cedar Rapids at the Viaero Center.  


The Storm return to action tomorrow night in Urbandale, IA in a matchup with the Des Moines Buccaneers. The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
