Cedar Rapids, IA – The Tri-City Storm faceoff tonight against Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for the first time this season. Tonight’s game will be the first of two road games this weekend for the Storm, who will travel to Des Moines tomorrow night for a matchup with the Buccaneers. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM.

Tri-City (24-15-1-1) enters tonight’s game as the 5th place team in the Western Conference standings. The Storm are 8 points ahead of Sioux City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tonight’s matchup will be the first for the Storm this season against Eastern Conference foe Cedar Rapids. Tri-City is 8-3-0-1 against teams from the Eastern Conference this season, including two game sweeps over Youngstown, Madison, and Muskegon. In the Storm’s last game, Hugo Blixt and Jake Crespi scored goals and Filip Larsson stopped a career high 41 shots in a 2-1 overtime win over Fargo. With the win, the Storm now hold the best winning percentage of any USHL team in games going past regulation time this season (.800). Tri-City is in the middle a streak of playing 6 of 7 games on the road, with the only home game during that stretch falling on March 2nd against Cedar Rapids. The game will be played at the Viaero Center one week from today and will be the annual “Pack It In Purple” promotion with the first 1,500 fans receiving free t shirts. The Storm continue to allow the least amount of goals of any team in the USHL this season, currently with 85 goals against. Tri-City has also scored the least amount of goals of any team in the league, scoring 96 total goals on the year. The Storm are now 3-7 in their last 10 games, and 12-7-0-1 in road games this season. Tonight’s game will be the 42nd of the season for Tri-City.
Cedar Rapids (16-19-6-1) is currently 7th place in the Eastern Conference and 15th in the USHL standings. The RoughRiders enter tonight’s game with an overall home record of 7-9-2-0. Cedar Rapids is 3-6-0-1 in its last 10 games and has lost 7 of the last 8 games at Cedar Rapids Arena. The RoughRiders have not won a home game since defeating Youngstown 5-3 on January 5th.
