Tri-City shutout by rival Omaha

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm lost its 5th straight game Wednesday night at the Viaero Center, falling to rival Omaha by a final score of 1-0. It was the 2nd shutout by Omaha over the Storm this season. The game’s lone goal was scored by former Storm player Michael Maloney at the 1:21 mark of the 3rd period. Storm goalie Filip Larsson recorded the loss in net after stopping 23 of 24 Lancer shots. Tri-City returns to action on Friday night in a road matchup with the Fargo Force.

 

The first forty minutes of hockey went by without a goal on Wednesday night at the Viaero Center. Omaha broke the scoreless tie less than 2 minutes into the 3rd period. Michael Maloney netted his 7th of the season at 1:21 of the 3rd period to put the Lancers ahead by one goal. Tri-City outshot Omaha 13-10 in the 3rd period but was unable to find the game tying goal and ultimately dropped the game by a 1-0 final. Omaha goalie Zach Driscoll posted his 6th shutout of the season, tying Storm goalie Filip Larsson for the most by a USHL goalie this year. Each team went 0/1 on the power play and Tri-City outshot Omaha 39-24. Omaha maintained control of 1st place in the USHL standings with the win.

 

The Storm dropped to 23-14-1-1 in the loss and 12-8-1-0 at the Viaero Center. The next Storm home game is March 2nd against Cedar Rapids. The game will be the annual “Pack it in purple” game, with the first 1,500 fans receiving a free t shirt. Tickets are still available at www.stormhockey.com.

 

The Storm return to action Friday night at Scheels Arena in Fargo, ND. The game will be the 40th of the season for Tri-City. The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
