Storm drop game to Waterloo 4-1

Waterloo, IA. – The Tri-City Storm dropped the opening game of the weekend to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 4-1. Hugo Blixt scored Tri-City’s only goal in the loss. Filip Larsson made 30 saves on 33 shots in the loss.


Waterloo opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game as Garrett Klee scored his 5th of the season at the 4:32 mark of the 1st period. The goal gave the Black Hawks a 1-0 lead that they would carry into the 2nd period. Each team tallied a goal in the 2nd period with Evan Dougherty scoring his 7th of the season to give the Black Hawks a two goal lead. The Storm responded with a late period power play goal at the 18:09 mark of the period. Hugo Blixt scored a power play goal that cut the lead in half. Adam Goodsir recorded the lone assist on the goal. Tri-City trailed 2-1 entering the 3rd period.


The Storm killed off a 5 on 3 power play to begin the 3rd period, but Waterloo netted a goal on the following 5 on 4 sequence to regain a two goal advantage in the contest. Ben Copeland netted his 8th of the season to increase the Black Hawks lead. A final empty net goal was scored with under two minutes to play by Jackson Cates to finalize the win for Waterloo.


The Storm return to action tomorrow night in Waterloo, IA in a matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks. The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm
