Youngstown, OH. – The Tri-City Storm scored 5 unanswered goals against Youngstown on Friday night in a 5-1 road win over the Phantoms. After giving up the opening goal, the Storm scored three goals in the 2nd period and added two in the 3rd to down Youngstown 5-1. The two teams faceoff again tomorrow night in the final meeting between the two teams this season. Tri-City has now won 20 of the first 30 games in the 2017-2018 season.
Youngstown scored its only goal at 6:18 of the 1st period when Mike Regush netted his 7th of the season. The lone Phantoms goal was assisted by Chase Gresock and Steve Holtz. The first period ended with Youngstown leading Tri-City 1-0 and outshooting the Storm 13-9.
Tri-City came storming back in the 2nd period, by netting three unanswered goals. Blais Richartz scored the game tying goal at 6:59 of the 2nd period with Sam Hentges and Ronnie Attard picking up assists on the goal. The goal for Richartz was his 6th of the season. Tri-City would take the lead a few minutes later at the 9:45 mark of the 2nd period and the Storm would never look back. Jake Crespi scored his 4th of the season with Joey Cipollone and Johnny McDermott getting the assists on the Tri-City goal. Johnny McDermott would add another goal later in the period to give the Storm a 3-1 lead. McDermott’s goal at 15:42 of the 2nd period was his 7th of the season and was assisted by Bryan Yoon and Connor McMenamin. The Storm entered the 3rd period with a 3-1 lead.
Sam Hentges scored his 6th goal of the season at the 12:25 mark of the 3rd period to increase the Storm lead to three goals. Blais Richartz recorded the primary assist on the goal with Jack Summers providing the secondary assist. The final goal of the game was scored by the Storm’s Ronnie Attard with only 29 seconds left. The tally was an empty netter that came while Tri-City was shorthanded. The Storm won the game 5-1 and recorded their 42nd point in the league standings. The Storm will enter tomorrow night’s rematch with the Phantoms one point back of Fargo for 1st place in the USHL standings.
Jake Barczewski recorded his 6th victory on the year in net for the Storm with the win. Barczewski has played in 10 straight games for the Storm and stopped 27 of 28 shots on goal in the victory.
