Storm set to faceoff with Phantoms in Youngstown, OH

Youngstown, Ohio. – The Tri-City Storm will battle the Youngstown Phantoms at 6:05 PM CT tonight in Youngstown, Ohio in the first of a two game series. The two teams have not met at the Covelli Centre since February 6th, 2016 when the Phantoms defeated the Storm 4-2. The two teams split the season series at the Viaero Center last season, and Tri-City last swept the Phantoms in the 2014-2015 season. Storm Head Coach Anthony Noreen served as the Head Coach of Youngstown from 2010-2015. Noreen was named USHL Coach of the Year while at Youngstown in 2015, leading the Phantoms to a 40-14-6 record that season. Tri-City enters tonight’s matchup as the 2nd place team in the USHL league standings.

The Tri-City Storm (19-8-1-1) will play its 30th game in a 60 game regular season tonight. Tri-City enters tonight’s contest following a 2-1 overtime loss to Des Moines last Saturday night at the Viaero Center. The Storm penalty kill remains the best in the USHL, with an 87.7% success rate on the year. The penalty kill was a combined 7/7 last weekend vs. Des Moines. Tyler Madden and Tyler Ward both lead Tri-City in point production this season, each with 19 points on the season. Madden remains the team leader in goals with 11, and Bryan Yoon leads all Storm players with 16 assists on the season.


The Youngstown Phantoms (14-12-3-1) enter tonight’s matchup as the 6th place team in the Eastern Conference, and the 11th place team in the USHL. The Phantoms are 5-8-0-1 at the Covelli Centre this season, and are 2-3 in their last 5 home games. Matthew Barry currently leads Youngstown with 27 points on the year, and Chase Gresock leads the team with 13 goals scored this season. Barry also leads the Phantoms with 20 assists on the season.


Tri-City attempts to win 20 out of 30 games to start the season tonight. The 2nd half of the regular season schedule for the Storm will begin tomorrow night in another matchup with the Phantoms. Tonight’s broadcast will begin at 5:45pm CT on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.
