Storm fall in overtime to Des Moines

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped an overtime decision to the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday night at the Viaero Center by a final of 2-1. Sam Hentges scored the only goal for the Storm in the loss. Des Moine’s Chase Ellingson scored the overtime game winning goal with less than a minute to go in overtime.


Tri-City and Des Moines played a low scoring on game on Saturday night with just three total goals being netted. A scoreless first period ended with the Bucs outshooting the Storm 10-4. In the 2nd period, former Buccaneer Sam Hentges scored his first goal with the Storm and first since being traded from Des Moines to Tri-City at 16:31 of the 2nd period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the game.


The Storm held the lead for much of the 3rd period until Erik Urbank tied the game at 15:20 of the final frame. His shot was from the corner of the ice and bounced in behind Storm goalie Jake Barczewski for the goal. Tri-City and Des Moines skated to a tie at the end of regulation and Saturday night’s game would be decided in the overtime period.


Chase Ellingson scored in overtime to give Des Moines the victory. The goal for Ellingson was his 6th of the season and was assisted by Scooter Brickey. Buccaneers goaltender Roman Durny recorded his first USHL win with Des Moines in the victory.


Storm goaltender Jake Barczewski fell to 5-4-1-1 on the season in the loss. Tri-City dropped to 19-8-1-1 but recorded one point in the league standings in the overtime loss. The Storm now have 40 points on the season and trail on Fargo in the USHL standings.


Tri-City returns to action next weekend with two road games against the Youngstown Phantoms. Friday night’s game will begin at 6:05pm, with the pregame show airing on HockeyTV and The Breeze 94.5FM at 5:45pm
