Preview: Storm seek weekend sweep of Des Moines

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm battle the Des Moines Buccaneers for the second consecutive night tonight at the Viaero Center in Kearney. Last night’s game saw the Tri-City Storm capture a 3-1 win in a tightly contested game. The Storm fell behind 1-0 in the 1st period but answered back with two goals in the 2nd period from Tyler Ward and Tyler Madden. Jake Crespi added a goal in the 3rd period do seal the win for Tri-City. Tonight is Get Active Night, a family night, and there will also be a postgame skate. For the first time this season, tonight’s post game skate will include players from the Tri-City Storm. Goalie Jake Barczewski picked up his 5th win of the season in last night’s victory and his projected to start his 9th consecutive game with the Storm tonight.

The Tri-City Storm won their 11th home game of the season last night and currently have the 2nd best home record in the USHL behind only Green Bay. Tonight, the Storm will attempt to sweep the same team in a single weekend for the first time December 2nd. Tri-City defeated the Madison Capitals in two home games on December 1st and December 2nd and will look to do the same tonight against Des Moines. The Storm and Buccaneers have now faced off against each other three times this season and each time the home team has skated away with the win. Tri-City is now 2-1 vs. Des Moines and improved to 14-6 vs. teams from the Western Conference in last night’s win.


Tyler Madden netted the game winning goal and last night’s game and leads the Storm with 11 goals scored on the season. Madden is 3rd in the USHL in rookie scoring and leads all rookies with 83 shots on goal this season. Bryan Yoon leads the team in assists with 15 on the season, and is one of only six Storm players to skate in all 28 games this season. Tyler Ward, Joey Cipollone, Johnny McDermott, Brian Hawkinson, and Jack Summers have also skated in every game for Tri-City this year. Tyler Ward’s power play goal in last night’s 3-1 win over Des Moines was his team leading 5th power play goal on the season. Ward is currently on a three game home scoring streak.


Jake Barczewski is expected to start his 9th consecutive game in net tonight for Tri-City. The nine game start streak is the longest of any Storm players this season.


Tonight’s game can be heard on The Breeze 94.5 FM and seen live online via HockeyTV. Puck drop is at 7:35 PM. The Viaero Wireless pregame show will begin at 7:15 PM.
