The Tri-City Storm and the City of Kearney were the hosts for the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Tuesday. Team East defeated Team West 4-3, with Storm forward Tyler Madden scoring two goals to pick up MVP honors for Team East. Madden was named the game’s First Star and became the third consecutive Storm player to pick up MVP in the Top Prospects Game.

Tri-City (18-8-0-1) enters tonight’s matchup vs. Des Moines (10-14-1-1) as the 2nd place team in the USHL standings. Although the Storm are now four points behind the Fargo Force for 1st place, Tri-City has three games in hand on Fargo. Tri-City and Fargo will meet four times this season, with all four games being played over a nine day span next month. Since the Storm last faced off against Des Moines, the Buccaneers have fallen to last place in the USHL. The Storm defeated the Buccaneers on November 17th 4-0 at the Viaero Center before falling to the Buccaneers on the road the following night. The two games this weekend will be the last home games Tri-City plays against Des Moines this season. The teams are slated to play two final games at Buccaneer arena on February 24th and March 3rd to complete the six game season series edge.

The Storm are coming off a tough loss to the hands of the Omaha Lancers last Saturday night at the Viaero Center. Omaha took a 3-2 season series lead in the 4-1 win. Des Moines enters tonight’s game having won just two of the last seven games. Jake Kucharski and Braden Costello represented the Buccaneers in Tuesday’s USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Kearney. The Tri-City Storm had four representatives in the game; Tyler Madden, Jace Foskey, Hugo Blixt, and Wyllum Deveaux.

On Wednesday, the Tri-City Storm announced a trade involving Deveaux and teammate Nate Clurman with the Des Moines Buccaneers. The two players were traded to Des Moines in exchange for forward Sam Hentges. Tri-City also acquired defenseman Nicolas Appendino in a separate transaction with the Buccaneers. Earlier this season, Tony Malinowski was traded to the Bucs in exchange for two draft picks. All three former Storm players are expected to be in the lineup tonight for Des Moines. The two teams faceoff on “Star Wars Night” at 7:35pm.

Tonight’s game can be heard on The Breeze 94.5 FM and seen live online via HockeyTV. Puck drop is at 7:35 PM. The Viaero Wireless pregame show will begin at 7:15 PM.
