Posted 129 days ago ago by Kendall Grayson

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm have acquired Forward Sam Hentges in a trade with the Des Moines Buccaneers in exchange for Forward Wyllum Deveaux, Defenseman Nate Clurman, a 7th Round Pick in the 2018 Phase II USHL Draft, and an additional conditional 4th Round draft pick.

Sam Hentges, 18, of Fridley, MN has skated in 16 games this season with Des Moines Buccaneers. Hentges has 4 goals and 8 assists this season. He was drafted in the 15th round of this year’s USHL Phase II Draft by Des Moines. Prior to joining the Buccaneers, Hentges spent three seasons with Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, MN. Hentges recorded 46 goals in 72 games played with Totino-Grace. He announced a commitment to St. Cloud State on October 3rd.

Wyllum Deveaux, 17, of Sackville, Nova Scotia has skated in 15 games with the Storm this season. Deveaux scored his lone goal of the year on November 17th in Tri-City’s 4-0 shutout of Des Moines. He was selected in the 3rd round of the USHL Phase I Draft in 2016 by the Tri-City Storm. Deveaux previously announced his commitment to Harvard on May 20th, 2016.

Nate Clurman, 19, of Boulder, CO has played in 23 games this season with Tri-City. Clurman recorded three assists in his time with the Storm this season. Clurman was selected 161st overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. With the selection, Clurman became the first Colorado born player to be drafted by the Avalanche. On March 2nd, 2016, Clurman announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

“With Charlie Dovorany going on the injured reserve last week, a huge hole in our lineup was created. We owe it to our team and our fans to go out and try to replace that gap in our lineup. You have to give up good players and good people in order to get someone in return and that’s what we had to do. Sam Hentges has the opportunity to make an immediate impact with our organization based on his upside and production. We have a very deep defensive core, and a very deep forward core also. We believe in doing what’s right for the players and this trade should allow Wyllum Deveaux and Nate Clurman to gain more ice time and make more of an impact in Des Moines. We wish both players all the best with the Buccaneers this season. We are pleased to welcome Sam Hentges to the Storm family!” –Tri-City Storm President of Hockey Operations Steve Lowe

In a separate transaction, Tri-City added defenseman Nicolas Appendino to the roster. Appendnio, 18, from Kempten, Germany previously skated in 23 games with Des Moines this season.

“This new addition to our roster will add competition in our defensive core. Nic will be able to come in and challenge for ice time and hopefully strengthen our team defense. We are pleased to welcome Nicolas Appendino to the Tri-City family!” – Tri-City Storm President of Hockey Operations Steve Lowe
