Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a home decision on Saturday night to the Omaha Lancers. Omaha won the game by a final score of 4-1 and took a 3-2 season series edge in the victory. Tri-City returns home on Friday night to face off against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
The Omaha Lancers put the first goal of the night up on the board just 10 seconds into the opening period. Branden Furry netted his 8th of the season shortly after the opening faceoff. Later in the period, Omaha scored a 5 on 3 power play goal to go up by two. Christian O’Neill scored his 8th goal of the season at 12:58 of the period to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead. Tri-City would cut the Omaha lead in half a short time later when Tyler Ward scored his 8th of the year to make it a 2-1 game. Connor McMenamin picked up the lone assist on the goal. The 1st period would end with Omaha leading by one goal. The Storm would not find any additional offense after their first period tally.
Omaha added two goals in the 2nd period to increase the Lancers lead to 4-1. Omaha got goals from Christian O’Neil and Filip Suchy to increase the lead to three goals. No goal scoring would occur in the third period and the game would end with a 4-1 final favoring Omaha.
Tri-City fell to 18-8-0-1 in the loss and dropped just the 4th home game this season. The Storm are now 14-4 at the Viaero Center this season. Jake Barczewski picked up the loss in net and fell to 4-4-0-1 on the year.
The Storm return home on Friday night to face off against the Des Moines Buccaneers. The 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospect Game will be played on Tuesday night at the Viaero Center. Puck drop is at 7:35PM.
