Lincoln, NE. – The Tri-City Storm recorded the 15th victory on the season Thursday night in Lincoln, NE with a 1-0 defeat of the Stars. The Storm defeated rival Lincoln for the fourth time this season and now sit at the top of the USHL standings with 30 points. Tri-City is now 7-3 on the road and returns home to face Omaha tomorrow night at the Viaero Center.
The lone goal of the game was netted by Blais Richartz at the 8:53 mark of the 2nd period. The goal gave the Storm a 1-0 lead and would be all the offense required with goalie Filip Larsson blanking the Stars for his league leading fifth shutout of the season. Richartz’s goal was his 3rd of the season and was unassisted. Larsson stopped all 29 Lincoln shots and recorded his 14th win of the season. The Storm have now posted back to back shutouts on the season, following a 3-0 shutout of Madison last weekend.
Other than the Richartz goal, the only major event of the game was a fight between Tri-City’s Chase McLane and Lincoln’s Dominic Mersch at 16:56 of the first period. Following the scrap, each player was given a five minute penalty for fighting and a ten minute misconduct.
The Storm’s opponent tomorrow night is the Omaha Lancers who are one of four teams to record a victory against the Storm this season. Tri-City fell to Omaha in mid-October but have won two games against the Lancers this season. With the win tonight, the Storm are now a combined 6-1 against their in state rivals Lincoln and Omaha this season. Omaha enters the matchup in 5th place in the Western Conference standings.
Tomorrow’s game can be heard on The Breeze 94.5 FM and seen live online via HockeyTV. Puck drop is at 7:35 PM. The Viaero Wireless pregame show will begin at 7:15 PM.
