Larsson named to Sweden’s World Juniors Roster

Kearney, NE. – Tri-City Storm goalie Filip Larsson has been named to the preliminary roster for Team Sweden for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships. The 2018 World Junior Championships showcases the top under twenty hockey talent in the World. The tournament will be held December 26th- January 5th at the Harbor Center and the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. Canada and USA will play the first outdoor game in the event’s history at New Era Field on Friday, December 29th. The tournament will be televised worldwide and is sanctioned by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The teams consist of current junior, college, and professional hockey players from various leagues across the World. 


Filip Larsson, 19, of Stockholm, Sweden has put together an impressive season thus far for the Storm. The 6th round Detroit Red Wings draft pick of 2016 leads the USHL in several statistical categories. Larsson has won more games this season than any other goalie in the league with 13 victories on the year. He also currently leads the USHL in Goals Against Average (GAA) (1.50), Save Percentage (94.2%), and Shutouts (4). Larsson has previously represented his home country in the under 16 and under 18 versions of the World Junior Championship. Later this month, he will represent Sweden in the under 20 edition of the World Junior Championship, considered to be the most prestigious junior hockey tournament in the world. Larsson won a silver medal in the 2016 IIHF World U18 Championship in Grand Forks, SD.


The 2018 World Junior Championship can be seen live on the NHL Network. Sweden has won the event twice, once in 1981 and most recently in 2012.
