Muskegon, MI. – The Tri-City Storm improved on a franchise best start on Saturday, defeating Muskegon for their eight victory in nine games played this season. The win marked the sixth consecutive victory for the Storm and the second on the weekend.
For the second consecutive night, Tri-City would overcome giving up the first goal of the game. Anthony Del Gaizo opened the scoring for the Lumberjacks with a goal at the 6:35 mark of the first period. After a 1st period deficit of 1-0, the Storm would tie the game up just over six minutes into the middle frame. Joey Cipollone recorded his fourth of the season with Ronnie Attard picking up the assist. Johnny McDermott added a 2nd period goal at the 18:11 mark to give the Storm a one goal advantage entering the third period.
Less than halfway through the final period, Michael Maloney netted his third of the season to increase the Storm lead by two goals. Muskegon would answer at the 12:25 mark with a 5 on 3 power play goal from Clayton Phillips. Tri-City defenseman Hugo Blixt scored in the last minute for the second consecutive night, this time a power play goal that gave the Storm a 4-2 lead with 50 seconds remaining.
Filip Larsson was solid between the pipes, allowing just 2 goals on 35 shots. Tri-City returns to action on Friday night as the team plays host to Waterloo. Game time is 7:35 PM.
