Kearney, Neb. – Tri-City Storm forward Johnny McDermott announced his commitment to play college hockey at Providence College earlier this week. He becomes the 20th player on this year’s roster to announce a commitment to an NCAA Division I program.

McDermott, 20, from Darien, CT previously played for Boston University before joining the Storm this season. Providence College is located in Providence, Rhode Island and boasts a program with a proud hockey tradition. The Friars have appeared in thirteen NCAA tournaments, four Frozen Fours, and won a National Championship in 2015. A total of 28 former Friars have gone on to play in the NHL.

“The biggest thing with Providence was their coaching staff led by Head Coach Nate Leaman” McDermott said about the Friar program. McDermott added “It’s a really deep program, they’ve had a lot of success in the past, and I think it’s the best fit for me overall”

McDermott has skated in all eight Storm games this season, recording three assists for the Tri-City offense. McDermott selected 138th overall by the Storm in the 2014 USHL Entry Draft.

The Tri-City Storm congratulate Johnny on his commitment!
