Preview: Storm take 4 game win streak to Michigan

Kearney, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm have rolled out to a franchise best 6-1 start through the first seven games of the season and sit atop the USHL standings with two games vs. Muskegon looming. The Lumberjacks will be the first Eastern Conference opponent the Storm have faced this season, and will put their four game win streak on the line tonight at L.C Walker Arena in Muskegon, Michigan.

In their last game, Tri-City picked up a thrilling shootout victory at the expense of the Sioux City Musketeers. Brian Hawkinson and Filip Forsmark scored the Storm goals during regulation and Adam Goodsir buried the only goal in the shootout period to give Tri-City the victory. Goaltender Jake Barczewski won his first game in his USHL debut, stopping an impressive 37 of 39 shots.


While Tri-City has started hot, the opposite could be said for Muskegon. The Lumberjacks are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference and USHL standings with a 3-4 record through seven games. In their last game the Lumberjacks picked up their first home win of the season, defeating Youngstown 5-2 at L.C Walker Arena on Saturday night. Anthony Del Gaizo scored two of the first three goals of the game, including a game opening power play goal. Clayton Phillips, Matej Pekar, and Bray Crowder added additional goals in the three goal victory for Muskegon.


Tonight the Storm go for five wins in a row, and seven of eight to start the season. An all-around team game has aided Tri-City’s torrent start. Filip Forsmark is tied for the league lead with three power play goals. The Storm boast the league’s best penalty kill and second best power play. Storm goalies Filip Larsson and Jake Barczewski have a combined
