Kearney, NE- For the first time in his USHL career, Tri-City Storm goalie Filip Larsson has been named one of the three USHL Players of the Week. Larsson shares Player of the Week honors wth Ethan Johnson (Waterloo), and Chase Blackmun (Cedar Rapids).
Larsson, of Stockholm, Sweden, stopped 50 of 51 shots during the two game weekend, posting a shutout of the Lincoln Stars in Tri-City’s 3-0 win on Saturday night. The first year goaltender stopped 25 of 26 shots in Friday night’s 4-1 win over Omaha.
Larsson becomes the first Storm player to be awarded USHL Player of the Week honors this season. He currently holds a 4-1 record, 1.62 GAA, 0.936 SV%, and has only allowed 3 goals during the Storm’s 4 wins this season.
His performances this season have put him among the best in the USHL in several statistical categories. He is tied for the most wins by a goaltender this season, and also has the best Goals Against Average, and Save Percentage among goalies who have played 5 games or more.
Filip Larsson was taken 167th overall in the 6th round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
