Oct. 13 home opener is next game at Viaero Center
Kearney, Neb. – The Omaha Lancers scored a goal in each period and the Tri-City Storm failed to equalize in a 3-1 defeat Saturday at the Viaero Center. Lancers goaltender Zach Driscoll denied his first 33 shots and finished with 37 saves for his second preseason victory. Tri-City’s Harrison Feeney made 23 stops, including 12 in the first period.
Johnny McDermott scored his second preseason goal with 1:39 remaining in the game, assisted by Jake Crespi, to end Driscoll’s perfect night.
Omaha forward Joseph Abate (1g, 1a) led the Lancers with two points and started the scoring 2:19 into the game.
Despite the defeat, the Storm has three preseason games remaining next Friday-Sunday at the 2017 Fall Classic. Tri-City plays three straight days at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cherry Township, PA. The Storm is 13 days away from starting the regular season (Oct. 6 at Omaha) and plays its first home game on Oct. 13 vs. Sioux City.
Tri-City’s power play was 0-for-5. The Storm successfully killed one Omaha power play.
The first goal by Abate came six seconds after the Storm killed off the Lancers’ first power play. Feeney recovered with seven straight saves to end the opening frame.
The Lancers struck next at 14:46 of the second to take a 2-0 edge. Abate evaded sliding Storm defender Hugo Blixt and set up a slot-shot goal for Ben Perkins.
Andy Nedeljkovic potted his first preseason goal to put the Lancers ahead by three about at 8:47 of the third, assisted by Joe Berg.
McDermott scored to end the shutout in the final 100 seconds, sniping the puck off to the top left pocked off a drop feed from Crespi.
Tri-City wraps up the preseason with three games in Cranberry Township, PA at the 2017 Fall Classic. The Storm plays Green Bay at on Fri., Sept. 29 at 1 p.m., Muskegon on Sat., Sept. 30 at 3:45 p.m. and Central Illinois at 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 1. All preseason games are broadcast at ushl.hockeytv.com.

Tri-City plays its first home game, presented by Viaero Wireless, on Oct. 13 against Sioux City. The first 2,000 fans in attendance at the home opener will receive a Friday the 13th Jason mask. The first 500 fans will receive $2 off concessions.
