Ralston, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm scored four goals in the first period to blow past the Omaha Lancers, 5-1, Thursday at Ralston Arena. Five Storm players tallied and Tyler Ward led the scoresheet with two points (1g, 1a).
Ward, Johnny McDermott, Connor McMenamin and Ben Almquist ripped goals in the opening 14 minutes. The onslaught forced starting goalie Zach Driscoll from the game (nine saves). Caleb Rule added his first preseason goal in the third.
While the offense exploded, goaltender Filip Larsson recorded 19 saves in victory. Keegan Karki relieved Driscoll and denied 13 opportunities.
Tri-City is on the road in Lincoln Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Storm’s next home preseason game is Sat., Sept. 23 at 7:35 p.m. vs. the Omaha Lancers. Season tickets holders will get free tickets to the game. It is $5 for the public. Any fan that purchases at ticket to the Storm’s home opener on Oct. 13 will receive a free preseason ticket.
Ward opening the scoring on the power play 4:30 in with a slot rip that rattled in at the right post. Blais Richartz received the primary helper, his second preseason point.
To continue the momentum, Ward tipped a feed to McDermott inside the left slot to create the Storm’s second goal. McDermott flipped the puck in to the glove hand for his first preseason goal at 8:12. McMenamin generated an unassisted, short-handed goal with 9:10 left. Gathering the puck at neutral ice, the Penn State commit fended off pressure and snuck it through Driscoll.
Three minutes later, the Storm took a 4-0 edge with Almquist’s goal, assisted by Josiah Slavin.
After a scoreless second, Ohio State commit Caleb Rule snuck a goal through Karki and traffic with 13 minutes to go.
Noah Cates scored Omaha’s only goal with 10 minutes left. Tri-City’s power play finished 1-for-5. Omaha was 0-for-3 on the man up.
Fans can purchase tickets to the Storm’s final home preseason game on Sat., Sept. 23 at 7:35 p.m. against Omaha. Those that purchase a ticket to the home opener receive one free preseason ticket. Box Office hours are 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Storm is on the road at Lincoln on Fri., Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. All preseason games are broadcast at ushl.hockeytv.com.

Tri-City opens the season on Oct. 6 at Omaha and plays its first home game, presented by Viaero Wireless, on Oct. 13 against Sioux City. The first 2,000 fans in attendance at the home opener will receive a Friday the 13th Jason mask. The first 500 fans will receive $2 off concessions.
