Storm adds assistant coach Ethan Goldberg to staff

Four years of USHL coaching experience

Kearney, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm announced Friday that Ethan Goldberg has been named Storm assistant coach. Goldberg was a four-year assistant with the Sioux City Musketeers (2014-17) and won the 2017 Anderson Cup.

The Storm’s coaching staff is comprised of Head Coach/General Manager Anthony Noreen, goaltending coach Matt Zaba and assistant coaches Matt Stewart and Goldberg. Zaba joined the staff Thursday.

"I think there is a good core and nucleus that's coming back and I've known Anthony for a long time," Goldberg said. "In this league, I've learned about building and developing the players and how that translates to team success. I've also learned the right ways to build a team to have success. It's hard to do."

During Goldberg’s Sioux City tenure, the Musketeers won the Western Conference regular season title twice and advanced to the 2017 Clark Cup Final. The 2016-17 Musketeers finished with a league-best 40 wins and 87 points. In 2014-15, Sioux City edged out Tri-City by one point to take first place in the Western Conference The Musketeers advanced to the second round twice and the made the playoffs three times with Goldberg behind the bench.

“Ethan is someone who has worked in this league and been a part of an Anderson Cup team,” said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Anthony Noreen. “He worked under [former Sioux City Head Coach] Jay Varady, one of the guys I tremendously respect. He’s worked in this conference and knows the teams and the player pool. He has experience doing everything at this level.”

2012-13: Lake Forest College (Student Video Coach)
2013-14: Bemidji State University (Volunteer Assistant Coach)
2014-17: Sioux City Musketeers (Assistant Coach)

Originally from Green Oaks, IL, Goldberg joined the Musketeers staff in the latter part of the 2013-14 season. During that season, he also served as a volunteer assistant coach with Bemidji State University. Goldberg played three seasons at Lake Forest College (NCAA Division III) and joined the school’s coaching staff in 2012-13.

In 2009-10, the forward skated for the Brooks Bandits (AJHL) and Elmira Sugar Kings (GOJHL). He is a product of the Chicago Mission and Chicago Young Americans youth teams.

The Storm plays its first home game of 2017-18 against the Omaha Lancers on Friday, Oct. 13. Tri-City will announce its promotional schedule and release single-game tickets at a later date. Season tickets are on sale for 2017-18 by calling 308-338-8144 or visiting
