Storm's leading scorer is 15th active NCAA commit
Kearney, Neb. – Tri-City Storm leading scorer Linus Weissbach announced his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin on Monday. Tri-City has 21 players on its active roster and 15 are committed to an NCAA Division I Institution.
“We’re really excited to see Linus announce his commitment,” said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt. “He’s been a dynamic offensive player for us and we’re excited for his future. We will continue to work with him to develop him for college hockey. I wish we had 60 Linus’ so we could give one to every college program that inquired about him.”
The native of Gothenburg, Sweden is in his first season playing in North America, racking up a Storm-best 15 goals and 22 assists. Weissbach’s 37 points are tied for seventh in the league.
Since Thanksgiving, Weissbach is fourth in the league with 27 points in 24 games (12g, 15a). The Kearney High School senior is best on the team with 10 multi-point games and three game-winning goals. He has never gone more than two games without recording at least a point.
Weissbach is the first active Storm player to commit to a Big Ten school. Two former Tri-City players, Dan Labosky (freshman) and Matthew Freytag (sophomore) are forwards on the Badgers. Labosky led the Storm in postseason points (19) during Tri-City’s run to the 2016 Clark Cup.
In total, 207 athletes have suited up for Tri-City while committed to NCAA institutions.
