Kearney, Neb. – The Tri City Storm and Viaero Center have concluded their national search for a new President of Business Operations with the hiring of Cory Howerton. Howerton comes to Kearney with extensive sales and marketing experience at all levels of junior and professional sports, and will start leading the business team effective today. As owner Kirk Brooks stated, “Cory brings a diverse understanding of how to enhance the customer experience at our games and events as well as a strong background of growing and improving our relationships with our sponsorship partners. He shares my desire for a dynamic and collaborative leadership style that can help drive my vision for both our building and team forward.”
Howerton’s experience includes time with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League as well as stints with franchises in the NBA, WNBA, MLS and minor league baseball. Additionally, for the past eight years Howerton has run a sales, marketing and strategic planning consulting firm whose clientele consisted primarily of minor and junior sports franchises. This will be his first opportunity to lead a franchise’s business operations. “I am thrilled to be joining this championship winning team and organization,” Howerton remarked. “Everything I have had the chance to experience over the last month, from Mr. Brooks and the staff to the City of Kearney, tells me this is going to be the perfect place for me to raise my family and challenge myself professionally. I recognize the Storm and Viaero Center are community assets, and I will do my best to enhance their value for our fans, sponsors and Mr. Brooks.” Cory and his wife Melinda have four children ranging from nine to fifteen, and the family will join him in Kearney after the Christmas holiday.
Kirk Brooks added, “I also want to thank Scott Allegrini for all of his efforts in leading our team on an interim basis since September. I believe that our team members are recharged and ready for Cory to lead them to the next level. A lot of that is due to Scott’s efforts over the past couple of months. I know my brother John and the Las Vegas Ice Center team will be happy to get him back to Las Vegas.”
