Kearney, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm has acquired defenseman Carson Vance from the Dubuque Fighting Saints in exchange for a fifth round pick in Phase II of the 2017 USHL Draft, Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt announced Monday.
The 20-year-old brings two full seasons of USHL experience to the Storm. Standing 5-foot-10, 178 pounds, Vance played in all 12 playoff games for Dubuque last season and scored in Game 2 of the Clark Cup Finals against Tri-City. The Storm swept the Fighting Saints to win the team’s first Clark Cup.
Vance started last with Muskegon, playing eight games before Dubuque acquired the two-way defenseman in a deal on November 5, 2015. In 54 regular season games, Vance had two goals and 15 assists.
“We’re excited to add a player with a veteran presence that fits our style of play,” said Muckalt. “We feel Carson will help make us better in transition.”
Tri-City is Vance’s fifth USHL club, joining Youngstown, Chicago, Muskegon and Dubuque. He made his debut on October 4, 2013 with Youngstown. Vance played five games for the Phantoms in 2013-14. Next, Vance spent 2014-15 with the Phantoms and the Chicago Steel, combining for a single-season best five goals and 18 points.
The Tempe, Arizona native has competed in 127 USHL games, compiling eight goals, 37 points, a plus-13 rating and 38 penalty minutes.
Prior to his USHL career, Vance spent two seasons in the NAHL, qualifying for the Robertson Cup Playoffs. In 2012-13, Vance played for Kenai River Brown Bears. Next, Vance scored four goals and 18 points for the Janesville Jets during 2013-14.
