In cage, Sioux City has two new goalies, Matiss Kivlenieks and Ryan Ferland. Kivlenieks, a native of Riga, Latvia, turned aside 20 shots in the win against Omaha.
Finnish-born forward Eeli Tolvanen is back after leading Sioux City with 17 goals and 38 points last season.
Last time out
Despite outshooting the Sioux Falls Stampede, 50-28, the Herd knocked off Tri-City in the skills competition, 3-2, Saturday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The 50 shots on goal represented a high since Bill Muckalt became Head Coach in July 2015. Paul Washe scored a goal to tie the contest at two midway through the second. The returning 17-year-old forward attempted a team-high seven shots on net.
By earning a point, the Storm has secured an early lead for first in the Western Conference (3 pts).
Dayton Rasmussen was again sharp with 25 saves. Sioux Falls’ Jeremy Swayman made 48 saves.
