CHUBAK SHUTS OUT THE GAMBLERS, STORM WIN 3-0

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Led by Carsen Chubak’s first shutout of the season, the Tri-City Storm (19-17-6, 44 pts) beat the league-leading Green Bay Gamblers (30-7-3, 63 pts) on Friday night, 3-0 at the Resch Center. Radoslav Illo scored two goals for the Storm in the win.
 
The first period belonged to Chubak, who made 15 saves in the period, as the Storm was outshot 15-4.
 
In the second period, Illo scored his 15th goal of the season on a rebound shot at the 7:40 mark in the period. Tucker Long broke into the Gamblers zone and passed it to Brett Mohler, who fired a hard shot from the slot that bounced off Green Bay goalie Ryan McKay to Illo and gave the Storm a 1-0 lead.
 
Anthony DeCenzo scored a power-play goal 7:28 into the third period, as Jaden Schwartz passed it to DeCenzo in the bottom-left circle. DeCenzo scored his 11th goal of the season on a one-timer that beat McKay on the glove-side.
 
Illo added an empty-net goal with 42-seconds left in the game to finish the scoring. Mohler and Schwartz earned their second assists of the game on Illo’s 16th of the season.
 
On the empty-net goal, Schwartz broke Bill Thomas’ single season record for assists in a season (38), as Schwartz picked up his 39th assist of the season.
 
The Storm win ended a league-high 15-game winning streak for Green Bay.
 
Chubak (13-12-6) made 34 saves on 34 shots in the win. McKay (8-5-2) made 21 saves on 23 shots in the loss for the Gamblers.
 
Tri-City on the power play was 1-4, while Green Bay was 0-3 with the man-advantage.
 
Tri-City will travel to Cedar Rapids to play the RoughRiders on Saturday night.
 
Notes: Tri-City is 12-4-2 when scoring the first goal this season… It was the second shutout for the Storm this season and the first on the road (Goalie Steven Bolton earned the first shutout at home against Cedar Rapids on Jan. 8)… Both Tri-City and Sioux City won Friday night keeping the Storm five points in front of the Musketeers
