STORM FALL BEHIND EARLY AND LOSE TO GAMBLERS, 7-5

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Despite scoring four goals in the last two periods, the Tri-City Storm (18-17-6, 42 pts) lost to the league-leading Green Bay Gamblers (30-6-3, 63 pts) on Wednesday night, 7-5 at the Resch Center.
Green Bay scored four goals in the first period, as Anders Lee, Robert Francis and Reed Seckel (scored twice) got the Gamblers a quick 4-1 lead. Radoslav Illo was credited with an unassisted power-play goal following the opening goal by Lee to briefly tie the game at 1-1.
The Gamblers scored two goals to start the second period, as Scott Czarnowczan and Lee both tallied goals in the first 5-minutes of the second period to extend the Green Bay lead to 6-1.
Tri-City would respond, as Rick Pinkston scored on the power play at the 7:01 mark into the second period. Tyler Pistone and Matt Johnson earned the assists on Pinkston’s second goal of the season.
Pistone would net his fifth goal of the season at the 10:48 mark into the second period, as Cody Murphy assisted on the goal.
In the third period, the Gamblers’ Ludwig Karlsson scored at the 7:28 mark to give Green Bay a 7-3 lead.
Maxwell Tardy scored a power-play goal at the 10:38 mark in the third period, which ended a season-high 16-game goalless streak. Jaden Schwartz and Nate Jensen picked up the assists on Tardy’s 10th goal of the season.
The Storm got one more goal from Brett Mohler at the 13:03 mark in the final period, but it would be the final goal the Storm would score in their rally attempt. Radoslav Illo received his second point on the evening with the lone assist on the goal.
Steven Bolton (6-5-0) received the loss with 22 saves on 25 shots in relief of Carsen Chubak who started the game and made 8 saves on 12 shots for the Storm. Steven Summerhays (22-2-1) made 18 saves on 23 shots in the win for the Gamblers.
Tri-City on the power play was a perfect 3-3, while Green Bay was 0-6 with the man-advantage. The Gamblers were the top ranked penalty kill in the USHL prior to the game and dropped to second following the night.
Tri-City will play Green Bay again on Friday night and travel to Cedar Rapids to play the RoughRiders on Saturday night.
Notes: Green Bay has not lost a game this season when scoring the first goal (22-0-0)… The Gamblers led the league in goals-against average, but allowed five goals to the Storm on their home ice… The Storm will practice in Green Bay Thursday in preparation for the rematch on Friday night
