STEEL-ING A GAME FROM THE STORM LATE AGAIN

Saturday, February 27, 2010
- Game Summary

KEARNEY, Neb. – For the second night in a row, the Tri-City Storm (23-19-6, 52 pts) lose a one-goal lead in the third period to the Chicago Steel (19-22-5, 43 pts), losing Saturday night at the Viaero Event Center, 3-2. The Storm finished the month of February with a winning record of 5-4-0.

Darik Angeli scored the lone goal for Chicago in the first period at the 10:37 mark to give the Steel the lead after the first period. The Storm outshot the Steel 13-8 in the opening period, but could not get a puck past Chicago goalie Connor Wilson.

The Storm’s Anthony DeCenzo scored on the power play at the 10:39 mark in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Tyler Amburgey and goalie Steven Bolton assisted on DeCenzo’s 13th goal of the season.

Tri-City took the lead 20-seconds into the third period, as Jaden Schwartz scored his 27th goal of the season from Brett Mohler. It was Schwartz’s 14th power-play goal this season, which ties the Storm record held by Calle Ridderwall for most power play goals in a single season.

However, the Steel would score two late-third period goals to tie and win the game in regulation. Theo DiPauli and Jake Chelios scored back-to-back goals in the final 3-minutes and 36-seconds of the game, as both goals were assisted by Angeli and Billy Latta.

Angeli ended the game with a goal and two assists, which were his first three points as a member of the Steel since being acquired from Sioux City.

Bolton (7-6-0) received the loss for the Storm with 25 saves on 28 shots. Wilson (10-5-4) made 35 saves on 37 shots in the win for the Steel.

Tri-City on the power play was 2-for-4, while Chicago was 1-for-2 with the man-advantage.

The Storm are eight points back of third place Sioux Falls and are 10 points in front of fifth place Sioux City in the West Division standings.

Tri-City is in the midst of a four-game home stand with Youngstown coming to town next weekend.

Notes: The Storm have lost three straight after the five-game winning streak in February… Schwartz leads the USHL in scoring by four points over Omaha’s Matt White… the Storm’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot is now 21 points (which is standing points earned by the Storm or potential standing points lost by Sioux City), as Sioux City lost in a shootout to Omaha Saturday night
