Saturday, February 20, 2010
- Game Summary

URBANDALE, Iowa – For the first time in eight games, special teams cooled off as the Tri-City Storm (23-18-6, 52 pts) fell to the Des Moines Buccaneers (17-25-4, 40 pts) 4-1 on Saturday night at the Buccaneer Arena. The loss by the Storm snaps a five-game winning streak, which matched the longest this season.

Neither team scored in the first period despite a combined 24 shots on goal.

The Buccaneers struck first in the second period at the 2:03 mark, as Mike Fink scored the opening goal to give Des Moines a brief lead.

At the 6:23 mark into the second period, Tyler Pistone scored his sixth goal of the season from Cody Murphy and Mike Malady.

However, with two-minutes left in the second period, Connor Brickley gave the Buccaneers the lead back with his 17th goal of the season going into the second intermission.

The Buccaneers tacked on two more goals in the third period, as Austin Coldwell scored on the power play at the 1:22 mark into the period and Tyler Lapic added the empty-net goal with a minute and 33-seconds left in the game.

Carsen Chubak (16-13-6) received the loss with 35 saves on 38 shots. Eric Mihalik (11-14-3) made 32 saves on 33 shots in the win for the Buccaneers.

Tri-City on the power play was 0-for-5, while Des Moines was 1-for-7 with the man-advantage.

It was the first time in eight games the Storm failed to register a power play goal.

The Storm are now six points back of third place (Sioux Falls) and are still 11 points in front of fifth place (Sioux City) in the West Division standings.

The Storm are back home next weekend against the Chicago Steel for a back-to-back series against the Steel. The Storm will play the next four games on the schedule at home.

Notes: The Storm penalty kill has still been solid in the last seven games at 41-of-44 kills… Schwartz still leads the USHL in scoring by three points over Omaha’s Matt White… the Storm play four of the next six games against the Chicago Steel
