STORM HOSTING "GIVE A PAIR, SHOW YOU CARE" SHOE DRIVE

Thursday, February 18, 2010
- For Immediate Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm is partnering with schools, churches, businesses, clubs and other area organizations for "Give A Pair, Show You Care," an event that encourages the Kearney community to donate new pairs of children's shoes for the children of Haiti.

Storm fans who bring a pair of new children's shoes to the team's Feb. 26 home game will receive a voucher for two free tickets that can be used that night or at any of the team's seven remaining home games on Feb. 27, March 5-6, March 19-20 or April 2-3.

Shoes also will be available to purchase at the Viaero Event Center the night of the game. The average price of the shoes is $5, and fans buying and donating shoes that night will get a voucher for free admission to a future game.

Students at Kearney Public Schools, Kearney Catholic and Faith Christian who donate a pair of shoes also will be able to choose a voucher good for two tickets to any of the Storm's remaining home games.

Event Coordinator Susie Herges of Kearney said athletic shoes are the best choice for donations. Enclosed sandals will be accepted, but flip flops and open-toe sandals will not. Over half of the children in the world, nearly 3 million, will never own a pair of shoes, Herges said.

"As many as 10,000 die daily of foot borne diseases, injury and infection, mostly preventable with a basic pair of shoes," Herges said.
