NHL Draft and the Storm

Thirty-three former Storm players have been drafted by NHL teams in the Storm's 17-year history. Fourteen Storm alumni have made the NHL and three were drafted (Scott Parse, Jaden Schwartz, Blake Coleman). The other 11 former Tri-City players to make the NHL were undrafted free agents.

Bernd Bruckler, a goalie on the Storm's inaugural team (2000-01) was the first drafted player (2001, 5th round, Philadelphia Flyers). The highest pick in Storm history is Jaden Schwartz, who went #14 overall to the St. Louis Blues in 2010. Multiple Storm players have been picked in each of the last three NHL drafts, including 2016 Clark Cup MVP Wade Allison (2016, 2nd round, Philadelphia).

Nineteen NHL teams have selected Tri-City players. Eight have picked multiple former players: St. Louis (5), Philadelphia (3), Edmonton (3), Minnesota (2), Colorado (2) and Los Angeles (2), New Jersey (2) and Buffalo (2). The New York Islanders, Calgary, Columbus, Detroit, Atlanta, Vancouver, Anaheim, Montreal, Chicago, Florida and Winnipeg have also picked former Storm talents.
