Can’t Sleep… So Hello and Good Morning!

Feb 4

Written by: Skip Berry
2/4/2010 8:03 AM

First of all, it feels like 100 degrees in my room here in Green Bay and I need to turn on the AC in the middle of winter! I did not go to bed until 3:00am last night because I was finishing some broadcast notes and updates, but I woke up sweating at 6:13am. So much for the sleep!

But, did I wake up because I was hot or was it because I’m still thinking about the game from last night. I think it’s the latter.

After a stellar night on special teams, one that included a perfect three-for-three on the power play, the Storm lost to the top team in the league 7-5.

Sure, Green Bay is a solid team and is the pick by many of my broadcast colleagues in the USHL to win both the Anderson Cup and Clark Cup, but the Storm could have won this game!

Honestly, I don’t need the Storm to get down early to prove that they can come back from any deficit. They have shown a lot of spirit and/or heart this season doing this from time-to-time and occasionally the Storm have rallied to win these games.

What I want to see is a Storm team that comes out and dominates on the scoreboard early. A Storm team that dictates the tempo of the game from start to finish.

We’ve seen this from the Storm on only four occasions this season, once against Youngstown and three times against Lincoln. But (maybe I’m greedy), I want to see this Storm team dominate an elite USHL team and show us a second gear that propels this team into a hot finish leading up to the start of the playoffs.

I believe in this group of guys to be able to accomplish this task, but me believing isn’t them doing and they are the ones who control what they do to finish the season in the final two months.

-----
By the way, I talked to some of the players about last Saturday night’s game. They were all pleased with the supreme support from you the fans.
There is no question that the team needs you guys! You were their seventh man on the ice against Sioux City and a major reason why the Storm won the game!

I hope to see a sellout for Pack-It-In-Purple on February 12th, as the Storm will be home to battle the Lincoln Stars.

Be sure to tune into the next two games on UNK’s – KLPR 91.3 FM or StormHockey.com. The Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show starts at 6:30pm on Friday and Saturday night.

The Storm battle Green Bay again on Friday (7:05pm) and travel to Cedar Rapids on Saturday (7:05pm).
