Sometimes it’s easy to say who the best playmaker is in any league, if you base that on the assists column. However, it’s tough to do this because so many players have a good amount of secondary assists.
What if we took away the second assist from the assist stat and only took the primary assist (or known as the first assist)?
This would tell us a bit more…

The above table shows that not only does Jaden Schwartz lead the USHL in primary assists, but he also has the best percentage of primary assists.
I believe Schwartz is the best passer in the league and should be known as the top playmaker. However, I believe that Matt White is the top player in the league right now, yet Schwartz has plenty of time to change that thought.
Schwartz makes players around him better and has been instrumental in Brett Mohler’s offensive production. Mohler has become an offensive threat for the Storm and might be one of the players in the USHL to watch in the second half of the season.
Be sure to tune into all three games on Classic Hits 98.9 FM this week 15-minutes before puck drops for the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show.
The Storm battle the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at home Friday (7:05pm), the Sioux Falls Stampede on Saturday in Sioux Falls (7:05pm) and Cedar Rapids again Sunday at home (5:05pm).
