What We Learned This Past Weekend

Dec 14

Written by: Skip Berry

After the Storm won two games this past weekend, I ask everyone, what did we learn about the Storm?

Sure the team played well to start both games, getting the first goal in both games. Tri-City is now 8-2-1 when scoring the opening goal.

Goalie Steven Bolton started both games and allowed only six goals against two of the top offenses in the league… not too bad for a young goalie!

Jaden Schwartz, who’s fourth in the USHL in scoring, had four points, as the top three scorers in the league (Matt White, Omaha; T.J. Tynan, Des Moines;  Erik Haula, Omaha) combined for just one point against the Storm. That point was on Haula’s assist on Friday night.

Schwartz had four assists in two games, one of which on Anthony DeCenzo’s goal that forced the game to extra-time on Friday night against Omaha. The other three assists were all tallied in Saturday afternoon’s affair with Des Moines.

The Storm is on a two-game winning streak and has captured seven of eight standing points in the past four games (since the trade that acquired Tucker Brockett).

Brockett has two goals, two assists, and has a rating of plus-4 in the four games played in purple, black and white.

By the way, Storm defenseman Nate Jensen has been a plus rated player during the past four games with a plus-6. Mercyhurst College might have found a diamond in the rough!

Storm battle the Lancers Tuesday night in Omaha for the fourth meeting of the season. Omaha leads the series 2-0-1 (Storm is 1-2-0 against their I-80 rivals).

Be sure to tune into the game on UNK’s – KLPR 91.3 FM at 6:30pm for the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show.
